Women’s Health Q & A

How do hormonal changes impact women’s health as they age?

Women go through three phases in a lifetime, and optimizing hormones is essential to fostering wellbeing at every stage of a woman’s life.  When it comes to bioidentical hormone replacement (BHRT), the younger women start to support their hormones the better.  Bioidentical hormone support (very different from synthetic hormones) is a powerful, proven approach to help women age gracefully while feeling better and reducing risk of disease.

In premenopausal women, the most common symptoms we treat are premenstrual syndrome (PMS), irritability, heavy menstruation, fatigue or insomnia, anxiety, depression, and weight challenges. Some young women experience hair thinning and acne. We also offer a natural approach to infertility, which is often related to low progesterone.

In perimenopausal women, the symptoms of hormone imbalance can worsen, especially in women who make very little progesterone. Some may experience hot flashes, emotional challenges, worsening sleep and low libido. This is a very important time to support women with bioidentical hormone replacement (BHRT) as they are getting ready to move into menopause.

Menopausal women cannot make estrogen. This brings more symptoms including memory challenges, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, weepiness or irritability or both, and worsening insomnia, low libido, and weight challenges. Dry skin and thinning hair are very common as well.  Dr. Ramsey has an extraordinary track record helping women to transition through menopause more easily with bioidentical hormone replacement (BHRT).

Wellness Exams

During women’s wellness exams, your specialist at Revitalize will review your medical history, address any current symptoms, and complete a comprehensive physical exam, including a breast and pelvic exam, and a Pap test if necessary. She might use blood tests or other diagnostic tests to screen for medical issues, and will offer treatment recommendations as necessary.

Nutrition and disease prevention

Women have unique nutritional needs that change as they age. We are experts in women’s nutrition and work with adults of all ages to prevent or better manage diseases using diet therapy and professional quality supplements.

Whether you struggle with infertility, you’re pregnant, or you’ve just had a baby, the Revitalize Functional Medicine team is here for you. We offer nutritional and healthy lifestyle counseling, prenatal care, and help you manage every aspect of reproductive health, childbirth, and raising a family.

Menopause treatments

If you’re going through menopause or are post-menopausal, you might experience some unpleasant symptoms of hormone imbalance. We offer nutritional intervention and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) to address fatigue, mood changes, weight gain, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, osteoporosis, depression, and other symptoms of low estrogen.

How often should I schedule women’s health appointments?

To maintain optimal health throughout the different stages of life, we encourage our patients to schedule a health exam every year. You may need to see your provider more often if you have a chronic condition, become pregnant, or experience unusual gynecological or menopause symptoms.
